June, 5th, 2004 Washington, D.C. -- Meseret Berhanu and friends are pleased to announce the establishment of the Berhanu Soccer Foundation (www.berhanusoccer.org), a soccer foundation to serve boys and girls throughout the Washington, DC metropolitan area. The foundation was created by friends and family in memoriam of Berhanu Ageze (1951 – 2003), a passionate supporter of the game, who passed away last year. The inaugural event for the Berhanu Soccer Foundation will take place on Saturday, June 5th, from 6pm to 9pm at the home of Meseret Berhanu, 9916 Kentsdale Drive, Potomac, MD 20854. “We all look forward to carrying out Berhanu’s passion for the game and helping DC metro area kids compete at the highest level”, said Jeremy Toft, a friend of the family and foundation supporter. The Berhanu Soccer Foundation will provide grants, initially of $1000, to assist with the costs of playing at the club level each year. They have a goal of raising $25,000 in the first year. It will identify candidates through the coaches and selected clubs nominating candidates who meet the criteria created by the foundation for review. A board of directors is in the formation process and will be listed with the website soon. All questions and inquiries should be directed to info@berhanusoccer.org, or Jeremy Toft at (301) 252-7652. No other events are scheduled for the immediate future but as they are planned they will be found at the website www.berhanusoccer.org. Contacts: Jeremy Toft Dave Mangan |
